Just another WordPress weblog… Or maybe not? :D

Is Digg Going to be More Like Reddit and StumbleUpon?

I have just read an article on ReadWriteWeb.com about changes that are coming to one of the most popular social bookmarking services, Digg.com.

I could conclude from that article that Digg is going to become something similar to Reddit, since they announced plans about ‘unlimited amount of topic pages’ and that sounds pretty similar to Reddit’s system of content categorization.

Personalized front page could be something like we have on StumbleUpon, so if I got it right, Digg is planning to implement some features similar to StumbleUpon and Reddit and it is going to be pretty interesting to see what they are going to do on this field.

Of course, not everyone is going to like those changes, as always, but I believe majority of users would accept them. For, example, I have been pretty disappointed with latest changes on StumbleUpon but, later I found that changes weren’t so bad and now I could say I even like them.

Digg’s CEO Jay Adelson also announced a completely new way of link submission, personalized homepage for users and one of the most controversial thing is that Digg plans to reduce the power of submitter, which is, as most of us know, one of the most crucial things of Digg community and the way how Digg actually works.

This could be pretty bad for so called ‘power users’ on Digg who are controlling the content that is appearing on front page. It is well known that more than 90% of content that appears on Digg’s front page is submitted by power users and, if Digg is really going to decrease that power, this will surely take some effect on Digg community and changes are going to be really huge. But let’s first see what they are going to do and then we can talk more about this.

An alpha version is going to be online in next few weeks.
